1. Where is the Holiday Learning Club and the Mock Test held?
9. What is the background of the tutors?
All 11+ tutors are fully qualified and CRB checked. They all have a long track record of many years spent successfully tutoring children for the 11+ exams. Boys and Girls have gained admission to Wilsons, Wallington Grammar, Sutton Grammar, Nonsuch, Wallington Girls, Newstead Woods and Tiffins after sessions with these carefully selected tutors. The personalised tuition programme has been designed by a leading 11+ Bond Author and Assessor.
3. Does the cost of the club include the cost of the Mock tests?
No. A separate payment will need to be made to book a place on the Mock tests.
4. What does my child need to bring along to the club?
A packed lunch each day. Children should be dressed in comfortable casual clothes daily. Girls and boys are advised to wear trousers to the club each day, as the school does not have grass playing fields. Please do not bring valuables in case they get lost. You will be notified of any additional requirements by email, if necessary.
2. Who are the organisers of the Holiday learning Club?
The club is being organised by 11plus Limited, a company specialising in the provision of 11+ exam resources. The directors have all had first hand experience of successfully getting their children into grammar and selective private schools after sitting for the 11+ exams. Their wealth of knowledge led to the formation of the company whose aims are to provide valuable and affordable 11+ information to parents. We are privileged to have Andrew Baines, Bond Author and Assessor, as our Educational consultant and Curriculum Provider. Bond 11+ books have sold over a million copies worldwide, with Andrew as the author of many of these titles.
6. How may children will be attending the club?
The club is limited to 15 children. Please book early as places are being taken up quickly.
7. What can my child expect by attending the Holiday Learning Club?
Days of hard work interspersed with fun activities. We aim to break for fun sessions after every period of study. Physical activity stimulates learning and research shows that children who are physically active perform better in tests. We aim to keep the kids active yet progress further in their preparation for the 11+ exams. Please do not enrol a child who will not be interested in periods of tuition and test sessions. Our ultimate aim is to get your child into their chosen school.
8. What can parents expect by sending their child to the club?
We will work diligently with your child to eliminate any weak areas in their 11+ subjects. Your child will also have daily vocabulary building sessions. You will be regularly kept informed of your child's progress by email. At the end of week 1 or 2, depending on your booking, you will receive a detailed report on your child's progress in all tests taken. We will take into account your child's learning style and seek to encourage your child as often as we can. We believe in the power of praise! All children will be expected to be well behaved, polite and courteous.
5. Does my child have to attend all 3 weeks?
No. The full personalised learning program runs for 3 weeks, but a minimum of 2 weeks is recommended. A two week booking will enable your child complete the personalised program with us. During this period your child will have covered exam technique, vocabulary building exercises and numerous timed practice tests. At the end, At the end of this period, you receive a detailed report on your child's progress. Our aim is to eliminate weak areas in their 11+ preparation.
Should your booking be for 1 week only, your child will commence the personalised learning programme but may be required to complete the program at home without tutor support. The child will need to have access to a computer to do so. During their week at the club, your child will undertake numerous timed practice tests, and have access to 11+ tutors daily who will help strengthen any weak areas. Exam technique will be taught along with vocabulary building exercises. Our aim is to ensure your child excels in all areas of the 11+ curriculum. In the event of an oversubscription for places, priority will be given to bookings of 2 or more weeks. Book early to avoid this!
10. Will my child be safe at the club?
We take your child's health and safety very seriously. All staff will be CRB checked and clear instructions on health and safety will be provided to both staff and children. A First aid kit and staff member(s) with First aid qualifications will be available at all times.
11. What is the ratio of children to tutors?
The club will have a maximum of 15 children at any one time. There will be up to 3 experienced 11+ tutors at the club each day to tutor your child on weak areas. Some sessions will be 1 to 1 with the tutor where extra support is needed but during group sessions, you can expect a maximum of 10-12 pupils in each class. With most school class sizes at 30, your child will benefit from this small class size.
12. I have missed the early booking deadline. Is the reduced rate still available?
The early bird booking discount was offered to encourage parents to book early. As a club we do need to plan in advance to cater adequately for the kids. Late bookings mean we have to constantly revise our plans, which further increases our costs. A late booking at a reduced rate will be entirely at the discretion of management and will only be granted in exceptional circumstances. Send an email to us: info@holidaylearningclub.com. 14. I have work commitments. Do you offer an extended day until 5pm?
Yes, subject to demand we will provide childcare facilities for pupils who wish to remain after 3.30pm. Children will have free time where they may read quietly or play games which we provide. Please provide sufficient food and drink, if you would like your child to to take up this option.
15. What age group is the club suitable for?
Most children attending will be about to go into Year 6. They will be aged between 9 and 10. The Holiday Learning Club is suitable for children within this age group.
